Evaluation
In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
How does your media product represent a particular social group?
My media product is aimed at young teenage girls that like pop music. I think this is a good magazine for them as everything included has been aimed at what their interests are, such as the bands they like, music they listen to and what they like to do in their spare time.
The language used in my product is simple. This is representing the social group its aimed at.The cover lines are straightforward so they don't have to think about what they mean. This is not what they are like but are represented this way.
The YouTube link below is to a video of 2 girls the age of my target audience dancing. They enjoy dancing and music.

How do you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my target audience by firstly asking 20 people from that group, various questions. I asked them what their favourite colour is? what their favourite bands were? What they like doing in their spare time? This gave me a view of what ,my audience liked. Their favourite colours where pink and blue so they were the main colours i used. They liked dancing so one of my cover lines was "learn to dance like Beyonce" and they can follow dance moves. There is articles about their favourite bands. My double page spread article is abut Cheryl Cole, this is one of my target audiences favourite solo artist. I decided to use a male model for my front cover image as when i asked do you prefer male/female i got a mixed response but was mainly males. The model is looking directly at the camera, direct address so the readers will think hes looking at them. The language is informal as its a younger audience and its easier for them to follow and they feel like we are talking to them. I have also directly addressed the audience by using "you" in one of my coverlines; they will feel involved and apart of the magazine.
Looking back on my preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned from it in the progress to the full product?
Since my preliminary task i think it was easier to come up with ideas. A music magazine is what i would read so can come up with more cover lines, school magazine wouldn't read so found it harder. The photography in my main task turned out better as it was better planned and thought out. My planning in my preliminary was quite weak, the outcome wasn't like the sketch i drew, where as my main task didn't change that much. On my contents page for my preliminary i let quark change what i had planned because i didn't know how to use it, for my music magazine i had ideas and stuck to them more as i got used to the software. On my double page spread i planned to put my main image in the middle, which was quite difficult to achieve as the text wouldn't fit around it properly, but i stuck to it and it worked. My target audiences age for both was the same but i had to create completely different products. My music magazine is allot more professional looking and more creative. After doing my preliminary with hardly any planning i realised that for the main task i needed a lot more planning and it was based more on what the audience wanted.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?
I have learnt that creative photography is effective and can be easily edited. Quark was a new software to me so i have learnt how to use the professional software. Photoshop can do anything to a picture and you can easily manipulate something. I have used a few different technologies during the production, i used photoshop to create my front cover and Quark Xpress to create my contents and double page spread. I thought that photoshop was easy to use, but quark took a while to get used to. During the production of this i have had to be a journalist, photographer, graphic designer and sub-editor. I have learnt that photoshop can manipulate a picture to look nothing like the way it started and a simple edit can change the meaning of a picture.

What kind of media institution might distribute you media product and why?
The institute that might distribute my magazine would be Bauer. They do not have a product like this so they will have a new audience, and they will be in direct competition with other leading music magazines distributed by other institutions such as IPC. I chose not to go for IPC as they have similar products so it would be hard to get a unique product within the same distribution.
http://www.bauermedia.co.uk/home
This is a link to the distributor's website. They have 3 leading music magazines, but each of them has a different audience than my product.
This is one for the music magazines produced by Bauer. It is a music
magazine, but not the same genre as my product and a different target audience. On Bauer website, for each product they say who their target audience is, for Q "Audience Profile" :
"Open minded experience seekers, the Q audience don't define themselves by the music they listen to. Music is an important passion,
MOJO magazine is another music magazine produced by Bauer.
"Audience Profile":
"Discerning and passionate music aficionados, the MOJO audience are predominately male (72%). These heavy consumers of music see their passion as discovery without boundaries, genre and decade being secondary to quality"
http://www.mojo4music.com/blog/
Kerrang is another leading music magazine
"audience profile":
Individually minded, independent of thought and musically experienced, an audience defined by attitude, passion and loyalty"

The only real competition for my magaizne would be Top of the pops magazine. It has the same target audience and covers similar content.
