Codes and convention of a doube page spread

One page worth is normally a picture-used to break up the text

A paragraph before main artical in bold or slightly larger font

A drop cap-used so its easy for audience to know were to start reading

Columns-usually 3 or 4

Quotes from the artical

Simple colour scheme

Extra info boxes

Picture usually on the left

Pictures often bleed from one page to another, and headlines or boder accross two pages

More than one image-smaller images used to break up text along with extra info boxes

A by-line -Who the artical is by-the journalist- positioned at end of artical or by the standfirst,photographer is also mentioned

Stand first-Intorduction either under the title, by headline, before start o artical, introduces it, works with hadline to tell the reader what it is about

Headline- Creatie and eye catching

Artists name is highlighted

Page number with title of magazine and issue date and sometimes website address

Codes and Conventions of a Magazine

Front cover

Title usually one word, full width of page, unique font, Meaning associated with style and context of magazine
Typography- either Serif or Sans serif-consistent throughout
The font- connotations of target audience and subject
Issue date and price by title or bar code
Bar code on front cover
Positioning statement –how the magazine sees itself-next to title
Main image relevant to target audience
Main cover line anchors meaning of main image
Simple colour scheme- one/two colours
Cover line-sometimes alliteration, as few words as possible, intrigue audience
Buzz words and puffs used
The text and any smaller picture frame the main image
Usually a strip at top or bottom with list of names, topics

Contents

Contents are usually in 3 columns
Main font size is 11pt
Heading to divide up contents e.g. on the cover and features
